Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced, strategic and business-oriented employment attorney who is a team player to join our department. The role will be responsible for providing both advice & counsel on a broad range of employment law and employee relations matters as well as the direct handling and management of employment-related and commercial claims and litigation. This is an exciting opportunity to join a close-knit legal team supporting a growing company.
What You’ll Do:
- Advise and provide strategic support to Human Resources and Operations leaders at all levels of the company on a range of commercial and employment and workplace matters, including hiring, performance management, terminations, accommodations, leaves of absence, wage and hour issues, discrimination, harassment, employee investigations, etc.
- Actively manage disputes and commercial and employment litigation matters, including managing outside counsel (when applicable) and responding to administrative charges and complaints, demand letters, and other claims
- Supervise process and team responsible for drafting, negotiating, and finalizing employment agreements, providing timely and practical guidance on hiring-related matters.
- Monitor changes to laws, regulations, and case law affecting the business; distill information and educate stakeholders on how legal matters apply to the business
- Manage and actively participate in internal and external discovery activities; respond to third-party subpoenas and other similar requests/demands
- Draft and provide counsel on a wide range of legal documents, including but not limited to, employment agreements, separation agreements, consulting agreements, settlement agreements and cease and desist letters
- Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of company policies, procedures, and practices for the company’s workforce
- Conduct and support investigations of and responses to compliance issues raised by internal and external sources, working with Operations leaders, People Services, and/or other legal department sections and affected business units
- Collaborate with other members of the legal team on inter-departmental issues and special projects, as assigned
Qualification and Experience:
- Law degree from accredited law school
- Member in good standing of the State Bar of CA or member in good standing with another State Bar with ability to register as in-house counsel in California
- 3+ years of in-house or law firm litigation experience, with preference to candidates with experience in management-side employment-related counseling and litigation (California and/or multi-state employment law experience is beneficial, but not required)
- Sound judgment in making recommendations and recognition of when to escalate matters to leaders
- Proven track record of delivering pragmatic solutions to novel legal problems and resolving disputes effectively and efficiently
- Ability to identify, prioritize and resolve issues quickly and independently
- Strong curiosity about the business generally and a willingness to tackle a variety of pre-litigation, litigation, employment matters, and general counsel advice matters
- High level of professionalism, work ethic and integrity with the ability to maintain privileged and confidential information
- Excellent analytical, writing and oral communication skills
- Interest in building strong cross-functional relationships and developing credibility and trust with clients
The base salary range for this full-time position is $140,000 – $155,000. Our salary ranges are primarily determined by role, level, and location. The range provided for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The Company offers competitive compensation along with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision benefits, vacation, sick leave, 401(k), and more depending on location.
