Position Purpose:
Manages the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section’s financial aid programs, including all bursaries, prizes, scholarships and other types of financial support.
Identifies law student needs, analyzes portfolios and develops funding strategies and options, and then produces official communication materials for both donors and students.
In compliance with agency regulations, establishes criteria and quality control measures to ensure that bursaries are granted in ways that optimize the granting of various prizes.
Advises members of the University community and external clientele on the various bursaries and prizes available.
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
Manages the development, interpretation and application of rules and policies on admission bursaries, external bursaries, Faculty prizes and emergency financial aid requests.
Evaluates student applications by analyzing their academic files, CVs and all other documents required to determine whether they meet the admissibility criteria set by donors. Justifies unsuccessful applications while counselling their applicants on their options.
Makes recommendations to various selection committees on admissibility requirements, terms of reference, prize deadlines, confidentiality, number of recipients and the allocated disbursements of prizes, bursaries, etc., while optimizing available funding. Coordinates all selection committee meetings to finalize the evaluation of candidates and confirm recipients.
Manages bursary allocation including providing all pertinent documentation to the selection committee to ensure that prizes are allocated to recipients according to the donors’ terms of reference.
Supports students experiencing family, personal or economic crises or breakdowns that affect school performance and eligibility for financial aid. Ensures student access to available financial assistance and that application policies and procedures are in place.
What you will bring:
Knowledge of academic administration and recruitment principles and methods normally acquired through a post-secondary degree or equivalent work experience
Minimum five years’ experience in academic administration
Experience in donor relations
Experience in networking and relationship building (experience in fundraising is considered an asset)
Experience in developing, interpreting, explaining and applying policies and procedures
Experience in managing projects and ability to develop new initiatives, including the ability to plan and implement steps to achieve goals
Excellent organizational skills
Experience in working in a client-oriented environment and strong interpersonal skills
Proven skill in managing time, multitasking and meeting firm deadlines
Demonstrated success in working independently to achieve work-related goals
Experience in working effectively with a team
Experience in providing first-line student advisory and support services (experience in providing financial advice would be an asset)
Experience in working with donor databases and with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Fluent in both English and French, with excellent oral and written communication skills in both official languages.
